Kent Modern vaults and it's another strong set of gutsy soul that will appeal to all serious soul fans. Tracks vary from the unissued early soul of Marvin Phillips (from 50's coupling Marvin & Johnnie) to the neo semi psychedelic Motown sound of the Windjammers 'Poor Sad Child PT 1'. Big name soul singers include the Ikettes, Mary Love, Jimmy McCracklin and Johnny Copeland, while the highly respected Jackie Day, Jeb Stuart and Felice Taylor are represented too. Unreleased tracks include an Arthur Wright-produced Freeman King track and the aforementioned Jimmy McCracklin, Willie Gauff and Terry & the Tyrants numbers. Al King, Willie Headen and Tommy Youngblood will provide interest for the blues fans and several of these tracks are from the tougher end of the soul world.
