Kent Record's excavation of the Sounds of Memphis and XL Records vaults continues with this 2014 compilation. It features 22 tracks recorded between 1965 and 1972, 18 of which are previously unreleased. From the 1960s we include the final discoveries by label favorite Barbara Brown, two recently unearthed recordings that are as strong as anything she actually released. Plus Ann Hodge's 'Your Own Free Will' and both sides of Caroll Lloyd's 1968 Tower 45. We have three astounding numbers by Rudolph Taylor and another gem from William Bollinger. All of these titles demonstrating that there was more to 1960s Memphis Soul than Stax. From the first half of the '70s we can experience a smoothing out of the city's sounds through some previously unknown recordings by Billy Cee, Art Jerry Miller, Vision and Fran Farley. This release sees the return to the series of both George Jackson and Dan Greer. The compilation comes with in-depth sleeve notes and a selection of previously unseen photos and memorabilia.
