Philippines: Bangon! (Arise!): Songs of the Philippine National Democratic Struggle protests Ferdinand Marcos' military dictatorship and the role of American imperialism in backing his regime. The idea for an album of revolutionary songs dates from 1971, and recording was about to begin when Marcos declared martial law in 1972. The project moved underground, with rehearsals risky and recording equipment hard to find. Altogether, the album took over four years to complete. Liner notes include a history of Filippino protest movements as well as song lyrics and track notes.
