This Walhall Eternity Series three-disc set of Richard Wagner's Diw Walküre presents the full-throated, ringing Canadian tenor Jon Vickers (b. 1926) in the role of Siegmund opposite the beloved dramatic Austrian soprano Lyonie Rysanek (in two roles) in this 1958 Bayrueth Festspielhaus performance with the sometime stately but unfailingly dramatic German conductor and post-WWII Bayreuth regular Hans Knappertsbusch (1888-1965). The stellar, star-studded cast also includes Hans Hotter, Astrid Varnay, Rita Gorr and Josef Greindl.
