2010 archive release. This performance of Mahler First, by Mahler's protégé Bruno Walter, followed close upon the great Viennese live recordings of Das Lied von der Erde and the Ninth, all three are in Walter's pre-war mercurial and passionate style. A must for admirers of the conductor who had heard Mahler himself play and conduct the symphony, and who had done perhaps more than any other musician of his time to promote the work of this composer. A previously unreleased complete concert in excellent sound.
